Typing a URL with the Apple TV remote is the slowest part of the setup. Since version 1.1, ProxyBeam can skip it: pair the Apple TV with your Mac once, and ProxyBeam sends the profile straight to it — the same way Apple Configurator and Xcode talk to an Apple TV. You only confirm the installation on the TV. The device-wide proxy still installs only on a supervised Apple TV — a one-time setup with Apple Configurator.
In ProxyBeam 1.1 or later, drop your proxy’s root certificate in and choose Send over network. Apple TVs already paired with this Mac — in Apple Configurator or Xcode, for example the one you supervised — appear in the list right away, so you can skip to step 4.
On the Apple TV, open Settings → Remotes and Devices → Remote App and Devices and keep this screen open until pairing finishes. The Mac and the Apple TV must be on the same network.
Next to your Apple TV, click Pair. When the TV shows a code, enter it in ProxyBeam. If the code is wrong, ProxyBeam says so and lets you enter it again. After a moment of Finishing pairing… the Apple TV moves to the list of paired devices.
Click Send. ProxyBeam sends the same profile it serves by URL — the proxy settings and your proxy’s root certificate. On the Apple TV, confirm with Install. If the Apple TV isn’t supervised, ProxyBeam warns you up front that the proxy setting won’t install.
Go to Settings → General → About → Certificate Trust Settings and enable trust for your proxy’s certificate. tvOS asks for this for any profile that isn’t installed by Apple Configurator or MDM — without it, HTTPS traffic can’t be decrypted.
If your Mac’s IP address, the proxy port or the certificate changes, ProxyBeam resets the status — click Send again. The new profile replaces the previous one.
